History

Original 1874 lighthouse replaced by the current 1941 Art Deco structure — a 48-foot tower with a 52-foot focal plane. The site stands inside Naval Base Ventura County and remains an active U.S. Coast Guard aid to navigation. Light characteristic: Fl W 5s.

Why it matters

One of the few Art Deco California lighthouses (alongside Long Beach Harbor), and a working military-base light station — a category that's largely closed to the public elsewhere on the coast. Worth knowing about even if you can't easily visit.

The visit

No general public access; the base is restricted. The Coast Guard occasionally hosts limited open-house events at Naval Base Ventura County — check current schedules with the base public affairs office. Visible from Hueneme Beach in good light.
